Who’s up for the terribly mundane topic of controller storage?
I’ve seen console-specific solutions, but none really seem that good. Plus, the default of just leaving them on top of the console wasn’t a good option even before we got a puppy a couple of weeks ago. We have these Pier 1-like baskets that we use, but throwing all controllers into one basket creates this mass of tangled cords because we have 3 pairs of Wiimotes + nunchuks, 2 360 controllers, 2 360 headsets [1 wired, 1 wireles], 1 wavebird, 3 PS2 controllers, 1 Wii classic controller. [Yep, the Wii controllers have made it more complex.] I’ve looked around and just haven’t seen commercial products that struck me as useful. Ideally, I’d like to hang the Wii remotes and nunchuks, but they can be difficult to remove for the kids. [I tried hanging them from the Skandia bookshelves in the room.]
Here are a few of the requirements that I see in multi-console home:
- Must have a good way to find different types of controllers.
- Must include some way of dealing with 2+ controllers per console [minimum 3 consoles].
- Has to be better than just a box to throw controllers in.
- Must include a way to store all the Wii controller options, include the nunchuk and its very thick cable [which is easily twisted and kinked].
- Isn’t hideously geeky or ugly.
- Must be dog-proof.
I’ve seen a couple of ideas that didn’t appeal to me:
- A hanging shoe rack
- A CD shelf
Any one else have ideas?
