2008 DS games playing safe?

While the 2008 DS games have some attractive games [like Ninja Gaiden and Assassin's Creed], I’m not sure I see any particularly experimental games or games that offer something different. A game like Drawn to Life [which I have enjoyed] was something of a risk that didn’t pay off in sales although it wasn’t a bad game. Professor Layton and the Curious Village is a puzzle game with a story and characters, which sounds like a bit like Puzzle Quest, which has new downloadable puzzles.

I’m hoping that developers continue to experiment on the DS, but it looks like we might have to settle for good, familiar gameplay and features.
