Wii at E3

I’m not a CEO, so maybe there’s something to Nintendo announcing three new peripherals rather than some new games. A zapper, a wheel, and a balance board. Are these interesting? I guess.  The balance board looks iffy to me, a potentially 1-game peripheral. And the zapper? So I’m going to run the cable from my wii remote through the gun holder to the nunchuk? The whole thing looks clunky.

But I’m increasingly frustrated as a Wii owner with the lack of games, let alone good games coming out. I bought Ratatouille for my kids because they really wanted it: I know it was a C-grade game but multiplayer . . . but no, it’s a single-player that unlocks the multiplayer minigames. grrrrrrrr.

July is a dry month in Texas and for the Wii.

At E3, they’ve announced a later release for Super Smash Brothers, a 2007 release almost in name only. Maybe I’m naive, but I was hoping for the announcement of 1-3 new games this year.

At least EA announced  NBA Live 08 for the Wii. I was hoping Dragon Quest would release this year but it’s slated for “early 2008.” I just thought this would be an opportunity for more third-party announcements of Wii games.

Maybe I’ve overlooked some items. I’ll have to look at the various wrapups at the Wii blogs and sites.

Do not despair, oh mighty friend! Remeber how shite the first year of DS games was? Besides, the Wii’s got all those lovely GameCube and retro games I didn’t have the chance to try yet.

Oh, and for the love of god, do avoid blazing angels. It’s a bloody offense…

You’re oh so right. The DS is one reason I bought the Wii, having seen all the excellent games. But I was hoping that the Wii’s incredible initial sales would accelerate that game development. But the turnaround on development time isn’t, of course, as quick as publisher commitment and support of a new platform.
